Keran has passed through Orach, weeks ahead of where our best estimates put him. My best estimates. It seems impossible that he could traverse the mountain pass that quickly, but word came from Lord Hasten, himself.

At least we know precisely where he is, now.

Now if only I knew precisely where certain others were.

[Filter: Eve, Ree and Keller]

Where are you?

[Filter: Lord Gebann]

Well. You'll be pleased to know that I have spoken to quite a few others here, as you suggested, and I can concede that either you have remarkable control over the tales these soldiers are trained to tell, or there's something to your supernatural claims.

An entire company and their commanders, gone in a blink. It's a tall tale, but I'll let it be, for now.

What is far more important as far as I'm concerned -- are you aware that the Northern Dentorians have allied with House Lahn, in the west? It may be worth your while to contact their commanders. Lord Hasten of Lireth leads the Dentorian forces, and Lady Anemone, of course, leads Lahn.
agedbeauty: (she comes bearing gifts ;)
[Filter: Eve, Ree, and Keller]

Are any of you here? I've checked the things front to back and I don't see a word from any of you. Check your journals, damn you.

I've found what appears to be the Einan army, marching north along the Giev, for Dragons only know what reason.

I intend to find out. And I intend to find you, but it would be much easier if any of you were here.

[Filter: Leaders of the Einan Army]

Why the bloody hell are you marching north from the Giev crossing?
agedbeauty: (my rage is something to be feared ;)
[Filter: Those in Rayla]

They want to burn my books?! Who gave these buffoons the idea that they could march into my library and lay their dirty hands on whatever they pleased?

[pause]

[the rest is written in a rush]

I will not stand aside and let these men turn centuries of knowledge into kindling! Dragons Light and Dark! We gave the order to evacuate, not to all go stark gibbering mad!

Eve, I swear, if you don't send someone -- they'll get through here over my dead body, and not a moment before. And Cadsuane and I will take some with us. That I guarantee!
agedbeauty: (...)
[Filter: Ree]

So -- that's it? You've heard all of the same things, I'm sure. They're packing their things and marching home, with Keran laughing at their backs all the while.

I can't believe it.

I thought surely, if nothing else, their damnable pride ...
agedbeauty: (Bah.)
[Filter: Ree]

I don't suppose you would be up to charming another set of impressionable young guardsmen, today.
agedbeauty: (Bah.)
[Filter: Ree]

We're running out of places to look for all of this supposed proof.

I don't doubt a thing that girl told us, but Lord Hasten certainly will. We need those damned papers, or we may as well have nothing. I can tell that she's near out of ideas, however, and I certainly haven't been hit with any sudden inspiration. Where do you hide documents this damning?
agedbeauty: (Bah.)
[Filter: Rayla and Associates]

If there is anything that you can bring me to prove our assertions about Keran's involvement in this debacle, I need it now.

Apparently, he recruited House Quen into this mad plot of his. They've been coordinating his "rebels" for who knows how long, and unfortunately, I made the mistake of asserting their innocence along with Taerin's, and now these Dentorians won't hear a word I have to say. Keran gives them papers, proof, documents and signatures. I give them an old woman's nagging.

It's not exactly compelling.

If we're to turn them against Keran, I need to give them reasons why. I need them to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they've been used and manipulated to evil ends. I need them to feel slighted by it. These are prideful men.

We need to use that, or we don't have any hope at all. There's nothing more I can do here without proof, damn it all. Damn Quen.
agedbeauty: (...)
[Filter: Lady Clara]

Lady Clara.

To the point.

I arrived in Lahn yesterday to find that the garrison departed on march two days ago, with the Dentorian forces, and Lord Keran of Sarrca, with the brunt of his armies, as well. From what I have gathered, the Dentorians and Lahnites intend to take Quen, by Keran's suggestion.

Keran, however, intends to take Taerin.

He has the full force of Sarrca behind him, Lady Clara. You don't have time to waste. Were I you, I would organize a full evacuation ... but I am not, and I cannot guarantee that your passage to Rayla would be safe ... or that you would be protected there, even if you could navigate your way through the rebels roving the countryside.

I am making my way to the Dentorian column. I doubt I'll manage to talk sense into them, but that's my aim.

And -- I'm sorry to have to give you this news.
agedbeauty: (...)
[Filter: Those in Rayla]

Was anyone aware that the Lahn army was marching? Right alongside Keran of Sarrca, and with Dentoria's Grand General and all of his men there, as well.

The Dentorians have departed for Quen with Lady Anemone with them, and the Sarrcans to Taerin.
agedbeauty: (Default)
[Filter: Private]

Sarrca ... or Lahn.

It's damn tempting. Reroute to Lahn and turn whatever plan he has there on its head, if I can. He doesn't do anything without reason, he's too smart for that. This plays into a larger plan, and if I can even slow it ...

Hah. Is Rayla beyond saving, yet? Is Taerin, for that matter?

If I found absolutely nothing in Sarrca, and heard only later that something came of what could be happening right now in Lahn -- something I could have prevented. Something that could have been our last chance to salvage this mess.

But it goes both ways, doesn't it?

Choose, damn you. You're a big girl, Dragons know. What's the use in being old if you can't turn all of that experience into something that passes for wisdom.

[pause]

Lahn.

As long as I'm out here, I'll go with my gut.
agedbeauty: (totally not concerned here ;;)
[Filter: Lady Clara]

Well. Thank you again, my lady, for putting up with an old worrier so graciously.

I'll need to be on my way, shortly. I hope you'll continue to impress upon Lord Rodger everything I've said. It's hard to say what all this quiet means, precisely. Really, I ask only that you don't let it make you both complacent.

There's too much happening now for Taerin to be left out of it for long, I'm afraid.

Please do take care.

[Filter: Those In Rayla]

All's quiet, in Taerin, still. Almost absurdly so. It makes me nervous, but I couldn't tell you why. This sort of quiet isn't natural. It feels directed, somehow, but that's ridiculous, isn't it?

Maybe I've just gotten more paranoid, since I left. Hah.

I'm making my way out of Taerin, today. There's nothing I can do here, at any rate. They have my warnings, and they'll do what they like with them, as ever.
agedbeauty: (Default)
[Filter: Those in Rayla]

Well.

You saw the writing, didn't you? He's taking his armies and marching south, and here I am with a choice to make. What are your thoughts?

I'm on my way to Taerin, first. No harm in checking in, I imagine.
agedbeauty: (Default)
[Filter: Those in Rayla]

Well. That about does it, then, doesn't it?

No sense in putting this off any longer. I have all I need.

If they come over the walls before I'm back, keep them off my books, will you?
agedbeauty: (totally not concerned here ;;)
[Filter: Private]

... I'm too damned old for this.

I'm just too damned old.

Stubborn old hag just doesn't know when to die. And now I get to see all this happen firsthand, and not a damn thing to be done for it, for all these years of experience. What good has it ever done anyone.

Is this where you're supposed to review your life? Catalogue your regrets, your failures, successes.

Always knew I'd go down with this ship, if it went. Stubborn old hag to the end. At least I have that.

I hope they don't burn the books. I hope, at least, I don't live to see that. I've earned that much, damn you.
agedbeauty: (totally not concerned here ;;)
[Filter: Those in Rayla]

Well, there they go. Some of the best men and women we have left.

I hope for all our sakes that this goes the way you're expecting, Eve. In and out and back again before the enemy even knows what's happening.

At least the cloud cover looks good, for now.
agedbeauty: (Bah.)
Wonderful. How I missed all of this.
agedbeauty: (Default)
[Filter: Rayla]

I recognize that their situation is awful. Intolerably sad. By all means, let them stay behind our walls and rebuild their lives as best they can. Of course.

But Dragons Light and Dark, Eve, you cannot send them the troops they're asking for. You cannot spare the men. You cannot do this. Do you hear me? Are you listening?
agedbeauty: (...)
[Filter: Those in Rayla and Ree]

The letters are trickling in, now, and we'll have reinforcements soon enough. From most of them.

Word from Caepra came in today. Apparently, they won't be sending anyone. It's not a very polite letter, either, contents notwithstanding. You should see this one, Eve.
agedbeauty: (Default)
[Filter: Private]

It's hardly the idea of calling the banners in that bothers me, and you all know it very well. It's the fact that once they get here, the next famous idea will be to send them all off riding into ambushes or distractions, where they aren't of any use at all.

This is a storm, brewing, and a bad one. This is the sort of storm you buckle down to weather. You don't go riding out into the middle of it and expect to make it back in one piece.

But what do I know? I'm just an old woman.

Off with the letters, then. Let's see what those oaths are worth to the rest of our allies, at the end of the day.
